Can’t Stop the Serenity Charity Screenings

Despite Simon sleeping in and waking up only as he was meant to be in town getting the BBQ, and us frantically trying to work out how and where to get it from, and setting up with one less person than planned, we managed to be ready to sell by 11:10am, with many people just waiting for us to have them ready.

We hit our next problem when it looked apparent that we would sell out of the 200 suasages we’d brought with us by 12. I jumped in my car and drove up to collinswood and cleaned out the foodland there of suasages. these managed to last til just after 1, where we sold out, despite the number of people who came looking for food after this, and wanting to buy our lunch.

We didn’t have anyone come and buy merch or tickets, but we do think we’ve got another table put together, so at least it looks like there will be at least a few tables at the quiz night. All in all, it was a fun time, if somewhat stressing for perfectionist and control freak me, and we made a little more than $350 to go to our CSTS fund. Add this to chocolate money and we’re so close to being in the black, if not there already, which is great.

We are already talking about holding the next BBQ ASAP, and making sure to order enough suasages this time.

Recently we had the opportunity to distribute fliers for the Melbourne screening at a couple of events, the “Evening with Christopher Judge” event held by Culture Shock and the Firefly/Serenity convention held by Hub Conventions.  We thank both of these events for allowing us to hand out our fliers.

We have a copy of the flier that you can download and distribute yourself to help spread the word.  Right click on the link below and select “save as” (may vary depending on browser) then simply print out the jpg file and hand out at will.

Australia looks set to have all 6 states participating in CSTS this year. Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney will be joined by Perth, Launceston, and Brisbane. so if you’re from one of these cities, and you’re planning on going, or just want to say thanks to your organiser, drop them a line either in the forums or by the comment form. We love to hear from you, and believe that come the day of the event, we wont be staring at an empty room.

We have successfully negotiated our first CSTSANZ sponsor. The Hub Productions have come on board as a platinum sponsor, providing us with autographs from Nathan Fillion and Ron Glass, advertising, and something so special and secret we can’t even talk about it! So give them some love.

If you would like a 2008 tshirt (as can be currently seen on the Adelaide page) contact your organiser by their pages comment form and let them know as their orders need to be in by the 16th of May. This especially goes for those who may want a womens style tshirt ($25) or a mens 2-4XL ($25) as these are ordered in specially. Likewise if you’d like a glossy 2008 poster, contact them and see if they will preorder you one in. deadline is also may 6th.

If you’re looking for 2007 Merchandise, ask your organiser first for Sydney, and Melbourne to see if they have any stock left. Adelaide’s 2007 merchandise is currently for sale from $16.50 delivered nationwide, so if your city doesn’t have any in stock, you can buy from the Adelaide’s page using the paypal buttons.

Looks like every city will have a rather nice collection of prizes this year. we’ll post full lists in the next couple of weeks.

Tickets are now on sale. $5 for the movie $10 for the quiz night, or $90 for a table of 8-10 people.

We have a few QMx packs that we ordered on top of preorders, but only a few, so if you want one, get in quick. $20 is a bargain

Tshirt preorder deadline is the 16th of May. That’s only 4 days away! If you want to ensure you get a 2008 t-shirt, you need to preorder. we’ll only have a couple of the most common sizes ordered on top of that. Same goes for posters.

Our Chocolate selling fundraiser is in full swing. If you’d like to help out, you’ll need to pay in advance for your choccies, and then we can arrange for you to pick them up for you to resell. $24 for a half box and $48 for a full box.

Our first BBQ will be held this coming tuesday, the 20th of May, outside the Mayo cafeteria (just inside the campus from the victoria drive footbridge) at Adelaide Uni. We’ll be there from approx 11-2, So follow your nose and come pick up a plain snag in bread for $1, one with onions for $1.50 and cold drinks for $1.50. You’ll also be able to directly buy 2007 merchandise and 2008 tickets.

Our prizes are seriously starting to gather. We have, to name a few: Serenity better days comics, signed Cast member photos, Multi cast signed convention program, DVD box sets, collectors edition, novel, unopened packs of trading cards, and Angel and Buffy comics. We’ll have more to add to our list of prizes in the next couple of weeks, but we are going to be giving away a door prize for every attendee this year, plus a raffle, and most likely an auction as well.
